Have you ever wondered what a sincere act of love means? Perhaps for some people, it is about giving something material; for others, it involves spending time with that special someone without giving or receiving anything in return.

But, there are few people who, while thinking about conducting an act of love, the benefit is someone other than their family circle, or their close friends. Although homeless people and stray canines can move us and leave us with a heavy heart, we rarely opt to act. Because all it takes is one act of compassion to change their lives forever.

On the street, a homeless boy clings to his puppy to keep each other warm and to give each other love.

Regrettably, there are still a large number of street children who spend their days traveling from one location to another doing miracles to find enough to eat.

Lately, the snapshot of a homeless boy sleeping clutching his puppy, who has become his faithful companion and only family, has gone viral.

The sorrowful photographs portray two small beings, so different, but both vulnerable. Sadly, his helpless state does not appear to bother anyone, since many pass by his side, uncaring, disregarding that on the ground there are two people crying out to be saved. Or perhaps it is that they simply did not want to notice, or see past their noses.

The boy has not yet been named, and it is not known whether he was orphaned or abandoned by his parents.

Till now, it is only known that he sleeps with his pet on the pavement near the central train station in Manila, Philippines. This small boy, despite everything that has transpired, has not abandoned his puppy, exhibiting their amazing bond and the genuine meaning of love.

The photographs were obtained by Jem Villomo, a young man who lives near the city, and uploaded on his Facebook account with the intention of raising awareness and getting someone to give them all the aid they deserve. In this context, he comments:

“The boy lives on the street with his dog. He does not ask for money but food for both of them.”

Unfortunately, stories like these are repeated throughout history. Let us remember Rommen Quemenales, another 11-year-old boy who lives on the streets and likewise found his greatest consolation in a puppy.

These stories cannot help but cause us indignation and lack of sensitivity to act and give these youngsters, along with their pets, the life they deserve.

Although the Department of Social Welfare and Development is the organization that must look after kids in the Philippines, no big changes have been noticed yet.

The greatest certainty is that this child has a puppy as his only family, together they sleep in one other’s arms expecting to wake up and find someone who will change their lives.

They only have each other exhibiting the most real love that is reciprocated despite the harsh situation in which they find themselves.
